The creator of the popular comic book “Bingo Love,” a grassroots funded graphic novella about two queer, black lesbian grandmothers said today that she will create a new five-issue series that combines bloody horror, the Jazz Age, and social taboos.
‘JOOK JOINT’
Tee Franklin, in a press statement, described “Jook Joint” as a “time-period, horror miniseries about a brothel-jazz club exposing the social evils of racism, rape, domestic violence, and inequality.”

“As a domestic violence survivor, this is a story I’ve been working on for years,” It’s been extremely cathartic and therapeutic,” Franklin said.
Franklin made the announcement in Portland, Oregon, at Image Comics’ Image Expo — the company’s annual gathering for unveiling new projects. Franklin’s “Bingo Love” is published by Image Comics, which also publishes “The Walking Dead.”
RELEASE DATE
“Jook Joint” is expected to launch in October 2018 in time for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Franklin and Nguyen will work with Image Comics on coordinating special charity variants to benefit Joyful Heart Foundation, a non-profit founded by actress Mariska Hargitay that focuses on healing, education, and advocacy.
“I now have an opportunity to use my talents to help survivors like myself,” Franklin said. “People have helped me when I was going through a rough time in my life, and now I want to give back.”

Franklin will team up with artist Maria Nguyen to bring the horror series to life.
“It was important for me to have an artist who understood what ‘Jook Joint’ meant to me,” Franklin said.
