10 queer things to do for Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles

FRIDAY

Made in L.A. 2018

What: This Hammer Museum exhibition showcases 32 artists, including a handful of queer artists and Cal State Long Beach professor Diedrick Brackens. His work addresses racial injustice and the intersectionality of his identity as a queer black man living in America.

When: 11 a.m-8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

‘Cabaret’

What: Celebration Theatre, a company dedicated to celebrating and telling the stories of queer communities, puts on the classic play “Cabaret.”

When: 2 p.m. Friday, Sunday, Sept. 16; 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7-9, and 14

‘Fatelink’

What: The play Fatelink tells the story of a gay filmmaker’s experience with love, loss, and navigating challenging spaces.

SATURDAY

Lezathlon

What: Be a spectator at one of the largest lesbian sporting events in the world where women compete in tug of war, trivia, and oil wrestling.

When: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

‘Spa Night’ screening

What: A screening of queer Korean-American filmmaker Andrew Ahn’s award-winning feature film “Spa Night” and a Q&A.

When: 7:30-11 p.m.

Where: The Underground Museum

Admission: Free

Laugh out proud

What: Uncensored comedy from queer performers. Beer, wine, and soft drinks are served for donations with all proceeds going to the performers.

When: 8-10 p.m.

Where: Unitarian Universalist Church of Studio City

SUNDAY

‘Icons of Style’

What: This exhibition, featuring bisexual photographer Richard Avedon, explores the evolving aspects of fashion photography from The Great Depression to the era of social media.

When: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. through Oct. 18

Where: The Getty Center

Admission: Free, parking is $15; $10 after 3 p.m.

CMEN pool party

What: Join the California Men Enjoying Naturism group for a nude pool party that includes brunch, workshops, and events.

When: 9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

Quench: Lezathlon After Party

What: A rooftop pool party with a view, games and contests, live DJs, and food and drink specials.

Queers, coffee, and donuts

What: Enjoy coffee, goodies (vegan and gluten free options available), massages, and coloring books at this queer meet-and-greet/self-care night.
