Oscars 2018: Transgender drama ‘A Fantastic Woman’ gets nomination

The 90th Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday and the transgender drama was nominated.

The Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel March 4 on ABC.

“A FANTASTIC WOMAN”

The Chilean entry “A Fantastic Woman,” starring trans actor Daniela Vega, is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Vega plays Marina Vidal, atransgender singer faces scorn and discrimination after the sudden death of her older boyfriend.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Vega said, “The fact that I am trans provides the script and narrative with a higher level of truth. But, more importantly, it opens a door into the movie world that had never been explored before, because I am a trans actress playing a trans woman.”
