Oscars 2018: Transgender drama ‘A Fantastic Woman’ gets nomination

The 90th Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday and the transgender drama was nominated.

The Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel March 4 on ABC.

“A FANTASTIC WOMAN”

The Chilean entry “A Fantastic Woman,” starring trans actor Daniela Vega, is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Vega plays Marina Vidal, a transgender singer facing scorn and discrimination after the sudden death of her older boyfriend.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Vega said, “The fact that I am trans provides the script and narrative with a higher level of truth. But, more importantly, it opens a door into the movie world that had never been explored before, because I am a trans actress playing a trans woman.”
