The historic Log Cabin building in West Hollywood, which houses the West Hollywood Recovery Center, is one step closer to being renovated.

The design phase of the project was approved by the West Hollywood City Council during its regular meeting Monday.

The Log Cabin renovation plan would provide a long-term facility for the West Hollywood recovery community, improve onsite health and safety, and meet accessibility and historic preservation standards.

The design concept features several upgrades:

  • Expanded meeting rooms, food preparation areas, and storage capacity to support local recovery services
  • Updated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • ADA-compliant bathrooms
  • Improved streetscape and landscaping
  • Electric vehicle charging stations and solar panels

With the design concept approved, the city is expected to approve the project’s budget, funding plan, construction contract, and temporary location for the recovery meetings in the fall.

Construction is expected to begin in October and be completed by December 2025.

The West Hollywood Recovery Center is a vital space for recovery services in the city. It hosts more than 90 different addiction recovery meetings a week, more than 4,500 meetings a year.

The Log Cabin building has a history spanning close to a century.

It was built on property purchased in 1928 by the City of Beverly Hills. The northern portion of the property was leased in 1936 to the Lions Club, which constructed the Log Cabin in its style as a Boy Scouts of America clubhouse.

In the early 1970s, the Lions Club subleased the building to the West Hollywood Recovery Center, which used it for addiction recovery group meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

In 2019, West Hollywood entered into a lease with Beverly Hills that included the option to purchase the property.

West Hollywood purchased the property in 2022 for $5,750,000 and began a feasibility analysis with the West Hollywood Recovery Center to determine a renovation plan.

The city, Los Angeles County, and the state will subsidize the cost of the renovation of the Log Cabin.

To date, more than $7.5 million has been spent on the Log Cabin renovation project.
