SILVER LAKE — “Planet Queer” celebrates its sixth anniversary tonight at Akbar with a performance extravaganza resembling cabaret with a queer twist, and cake.
The festivities start at 8 tonight and admission is $5.
“Planet Queer” — Los Angeles’ longest running monthly LGBTQ performance event — will be inhabited by dance, spoken word, music, video art, drag, burlesque, and performance art.
“Planet Queer” was founded in 2012 by Ian MacKinnon and Travis Wood.
“ ‘Planet Queer’ is dedicated to enabling a new queer renaissance in L.A. by providing a consistent platform for original queer performance works,” Wood said via email. “For the last six years, on the third Monday of the month, PQ has been a venue where queer artists can present their visions in the context of liberation for all and to help the world become more creative and queer.”
A dozen queer artists will take the stage for the sixth anniversary event:
- Heather Barron
- Heather Damage
- Martin Wiech
- Jayk Knight
- Evil Mutants
- Miss Barbie-Q
- Robert Patrick
- Billie White Acre
- Hope Kinyon
- Juan Martin Matamoros
- Empress
- Maurice Daniel
